Statement on TPNW Ratification by 50 States

Japan 2020

On October 25, SGI issued a statement welcoming the 50th ratification of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) on October 24, 2020, UN Day, by Honduras. Ratification of the treaty by 50 states meets the minimum requirement for the treaty to enter into force. The statement, in the name of Hirotsugu Terasaki, director general for peace and global issues for SGI, asserts: “The entry into force of the TPNW establishes the fundamental norm that nuclear weapons are subject to comprehensive prohibition. This has a profound historical significance.”
