From May 1 to 9, meetings were held around the world to commemorate May 3, Soka Gakkai Day. May 3 commemorates the anniversary of second president Josei Toda’s inauguration in 1951 and the inauguration of Daisaku Ikeda as third president of the organization in 1960. May 3 is also celebrated as Soka Gakkai Mother’s Day, honoring the women members of Soka Gakkai for their central role in the organization.
