On February 11, to mark its 25th anniversary, the Toda Peace Institute, an affiliate of the Soka Gakkai, launched a Japanese version of its website. Over the past 25 years, the institute has published more than 40 books and 100 policy briefs and carried out research in the fields of cooperative security; arms control and disarmament; and climate change and conflict, among others. In 2020, the Toda International Research Advisory Council (TIRAC) was formed, consisting of nine distinguished international scholars, to guide and advise on the institute’s research and workshops. In October of 2020, the institute initiated Global Outlook, an online forum for short, curated opinion pieces. Toda Peace Institute Director Kevin Clements issued a statement discussing how the COVID-19 pandemic provides a unique opportunity to reorder political and economic priorities to meet the real rather than the imagined threats to humanity.
