On February 20, an event titled “Promoting Peace through Dialogue and Human Revolution: The Life of Daisaku Ikeda” was held at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium. Held to celebrate President Daisaku Ikeda’s life and contributions to peace, culture and education, the event was hosted by Pina Picierno, vice president of the European Parliament, in collaboration with SGI Europe. In her speech, Ms. Picierno said that the passing of Mr. Ikeda had led her to think about the absence of profound humanistic reflection in public debate around the search for the balance between ourselves and others. Some 130 individuals attended the event, including Stefano Davide Bettera, president of the European Buddhist Union, Sandrine Dixson-Declève, co-president of the Club of Rome, and Melissa Parke, executive director of ICAN.
